I Survived Oakland!
And all I got was a t-shirt.If you've seen an episode of Cops, there's a good chance it was filmed somewhere in Oakland. if you haven't, it's because the camera crew probably got jacked while filming an episode. With one of the top five highest rates of violent crime in the US, I naturally had to take a visit. I even got body armor for 20% off on ebay with free shipping. Awesome!

Mmmmm, I've only gone through a few here on the west coast. Been through Oakland and I've driven around Watts/Compton a few times. Weeeeeee!

Oakland wasn't too bad when I stayed there. I was only robbed once and stabbed on the arm.
Yeah, when I 1st moved to Chicago. Took the wrong train and wondered why I was the only yellow amongst the blacks on board. Ended up in the west side of chi town and waited in food4less til bf come get me. Fml.
California, knows how to party! Every big city has a hood that you try your best to avoid where you keep your car doors locked at all times.
I grew up in Norwalk, CA; homey. For non-Californians, Norwalk is a small ghetto next to the ghetto next to Compton. Land of ghetto birds & Wednesday nite backyard mariachis & middle school lockdowns

Norwalk is okay... but then again, I've only been in Norwalk during the day haha.
@fLiPgUy31O - lol, barrio Nor-WALK! *throws up gang signs* Norwalk has it's better, quiet areas and it's bad areas. There's neighborhoods where delivery trucks will refuse to deliver, like pizza places, UPS drivers, etc.

Let's see: South Phoenix, South Central LA, Fillmore(SF),Lake Washington(Seattle), Albina(Portland), South Side Chicago, Harlem, Bedford-Stuyvesant(NYC), South Newark,South Side Philadelphia, Five Points(Albuquerque), Anacostia (DC), South Side Dallas and Brixton (London). I guess that about sums it up. People are people. and I've not been mugged, as yet.
The last photo is of Osha Thai! Hehe. Love their Happy Hour! Oakland may be ghetto but they have some of the best tasting Mom & Pops!

I almost bought a house in Oakland a few years ago. This can be a scary experience after watching the gang video. Virtual recommendation (somehow your rec button does not work for me) ..
My friend accidentally found himself wandering around in East Oakland at night when he was trying to find a punk concert. He never made it to the concert....
Luckily he made it home.:D He said it was one of the scariest things he's ever been through.

Philadelphia! More specifically, the area around Temple University. Campus buildings have flood lights to light up the streets at night. My friends backyard fence has barbed wire. A student got pistol whipped across the street (outside of flood lights) the week before my arrival.
Ambulance/helicopters/police sirens every night around the campus hospital. Plus stories from the OR.
