 Instagram Rant.

http://static7.businessinsider.com/image/4cc9abae4bd7c8cf1b010000/ig.jpg

Congratulations, Mark Zuckerberg! You paid $1 billion dollars for grainy, over-saturated pictures of people's lunches.

In a nutshell, Instagram is a mobile app that allows you to take a photo, apply one of many grainy filters, and share it with others. I think we saw a glimpse of this on MySpace.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/5PbFRJc2ATyGfsVIqWXVE11xl5F8_XifETfvJaj9J_FO8E9lVzH2Xv4kpFDg0ZOzQFsSBQnrtJmZr30xoJGyKfNi0S2ti-ljMidzyIFBPsYOGGodDpE
Example of every other Instagram photo.

I don't hate the application or the company. What I do hate are the users and how people use Instagram as a tool to edit and share filtered photos of themselves to make themselves look better. Stop making yourself look vintage. You had that chance with Kodak Polaroids, now it's too late. I hate how people easily leap into this fad when you have so many tools at your disposal, like Facebook or Twitter. You deserve double crotch kicks if you link your Instagram postings to your Twitter and Facebook.

Instagram is to photos, as makeup is to a pig. Just because you apply filters doesn't make you a better photographer. It just covers up your crap. These filters add no originality to your pictures. All it does it make your photo look like the other person's.

Ladies and gentleman, you have a high megapixel smartphone and you upload the most doctored, grainiest pictures since the man who recorded the Loch Ness monster crossed the river. Stop that.

What are your thoughts on Instagram? Do you use Instagram?

I don't mind it... Not everyone is a photographer... That's why they use it.(Not that filters arn't used by good photographers or anything.)lol

You seem to be easily annoyed. Are you?

I'm too hipster for Instagram... Hipstamatic.

Facebook could have acquired Kodak instead of Instagram. The only people celebrating on this is Instagram and the investors that managed to double their portfolio after Instagram raised $500 million from $45 million.

I'm not sure if this is a good investment for Facebook.

@stupid_systemus - I used Hipstamatic before. It was a good 15 minutes of fun.

I hear that tech bubble ready to burst!

It's obviously not the technology or infrastructure facebook paid for, since it'd probably cost closer to $35k to build a facebook feature similar to Insta-holy-fuck-this-shit-is-worth-a-billion-to-a-harvard-smuck.

I can't imagine what kind of personal information facebook wants to steal from shitty pictures. Unless there's pictures of Mark that he really need to be taken off the internet.

@fLiPgUy31O - Instagram ALL the photos!
@iscaphia - lol @ the last bit. I think FB is banking on the millions of users Instagram has, before Twitter or another social network (G+) snatches them up.

I think vintage filters were a fad before Instagram made them hugely popular (I think Etsy is actually to blame), and so I've tried to use them sparingly in my own photography.

I don't have an Instagram account and never plan to get one.

I think its alright sometimes, but I believe that with any sort of editing that people apply to pictures via picnik, pixler etc. Its designed to mask your flaws. People believe they look better in instagram photos. Its the new duck face - peace sign. :)

@methodElevated - It was popularized with lomography many years ago. Hipstamatic made it easier to replicate with the digital age. WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT...

@I_heart_cute_quotez - Very true. Making something vintage makes it a better photo, apparently.
