  • The internet is for porn.

I've had this idea for while, but thought I'd explore it with you
Xangans. I'm currently working on a social studies type project where I'm
exploring this idea. There is some exploration on the net but not
    much.

So bring it on, serious or funny.

What has the internet taught you?

For me, it's a large network with vast information to write terms papers,
keep in touch with people, and stalking. Things become more convenient
(payments, ordering online, delivering information), and it's another large
    media outlet.

Also, it has the biggest database of pr0n. :)

  • The internet has taught me about  s&m and gay porno. Also philosophy.

  • WAIT WAIT && amputee porno.okay thats it.

  • That people are superficial. To not believe a lot of information on the net. And Bill Gates owes me money for all the fucking problems my OS has and browser has.

  • internet taught me that old pervs write kinky shit to lure slutty girls for some off the net hookups

  • is that why we are all horny 24/7?

  • The internet has taught me that kids now are dumber than ever.

  • Well.

To be honest, I think the internet turns us all into perverted, exhibitionist attention whores with a total lack of self-regard and need for constant stimulation.

  • uh, the internet taught me that camera angles are very, very important...

  • Getting the internet in my home was like opening the window in a VERY small room and seeing the WHOLE world for the first time.  Predictably, I've seen a lot of ugly (but intriguing!) things along with the good.  It has changed me.  I've often wondered if, given the chance to do it again, would I pass on the net?  I was a LOT more innocent before I got connected, but I don't think I would go back, even if I could.  It's a bittersweet thing.

  • The internet has taught me that nothing is impossible, via xanga, youtube, myspace, bbc, and any tasteful porn sites evar.

  • Without the net, I never would've seen Britney's vag.

  • I don't go by Storm's assessment at all. I think a lot of people have genuinely shared their ideas, hopes, feelings during my experience on xanga. I guess it's because I am a teacher, and older than the average xangan, but for me it's been way more about having an opportunity to share my ideas that has mattered to me more than just what I've learned (and I have learned a lot, new words like "emo", "CPT", "downe").

Internet has been great for arranging travel .... I either got a great deal, or could shop around for the best price, and always compare it to the travel agent for backup.

Internet great for researching history. Some sites have irrefutable facts, some are opinion and one needs to be either open-minded and/or skeptical.

Between google and wikipedia, it is amazing how fast I can get to the nature of any new concept, historical reference, movie references, description of scientific principle, translation, it's amazing!

  • 1. pornography: there are so much bad quality stuff that you want to laugh at out there....

    2. photography: got inspired seeing other people's work....

    3. when doing research, i should move my ass to find a book instead of getting fooled by the wiki websites

  • The Inter Connected Network is a place where you go to get porn, movies, and music for free. Also a place where people go to seek for attention, and to stalk.

  • procrastination!

  • the easy way out just got easier.

  • hmmm. thats a toughie.

tv and the mass media had already corrupted me before the internet craze.

    I learned that:

    1. My roommate is one sick, sick man.

    2. There are answers to everything. and webpages for everything else.

    3. Things are not what they seem.

    4. There are actually people that bid over $200 for a piece of dirty underwear on Ebay.

  • The Internet has taught me that Chris is an attention whore. 8]

Haha..but really, it has taught me how to steal and not feel guilty about it. buahaha.

  • many people are lies.

  • That searching words up in a dictionary doesn't have to be a time consumer (http://www.m-w.com/).

  • sparknotes.com got me through literature w/out reading the book, wikipedia, and quick google searches..it taught me to be LAZY!!!!!!!!!! oh yeah and spending money mucho fast.
    <3Always,
    Nary

  • pretty much anything & everything there is to know about life.

  • The internet practically raised me. Being a 90s child, I can't recall a time where I didn't have the internet. I can't even remember when I didn't know how to use it. In fact, I taught my father once we got hooked up on good ol' dial up. First site ever visited: barbie.com. Typical. Well, I then ventured into gaming on MUDs, and learned to become very anti-social from it. Then MySpace came along, and I learned how to be social. I signed up on Xanga, and I learned how to write INSANELY well as a result. I use Wikipedia whenever I feel like it so I can amuse myself with random facts I would not be aware of otherwise. The internet also taught me how to use a tampon. But I'd be discreet with that one. Hahaha.

  • Yesh, people should just say "I'm surfing porn" instead of "i'm surfing the net"

  • i learned that you can fit an adult sized head into a woman's vajayjay

    :O

  • Quick and easy access to information
    Stay in touch with people
I guess...a more interactive version of TV?

  • it has taught me a lot.

Like how to give head. IM SO KIDDING :)

  • How is that Sims game? I just saw it yesterday and it looked sorta like a waste of money. I mean I play the Sims so my game will never end but it seems Life Stories has a definite beginning and end.

  • you and porn chris! tsk tsk. i wonder how much porn you have in total.. lol

  • I cannot really think of much, other than everything you presented in your entry and procrastination for other people. But there's an opportunity for anything on the internet.

  • But now that I think of it from all the responses, the internet has taught us a lot more about sex and positions more than the karma sutra can ever hope to get through.

  • hmmm... what has the internet taught me? that's a broad question... but hopefully i can answer it adequately for you, mr. cakalusa...

    The Internet has taught me:
    - the Fine Art of Time Wasting (aka Procrastination)
    - basic HTML coding
    - how to type faster
    - that I despise people who consciously choose 2 tYpE LyKe DiSsh jUss bEcUzZ tHey tInk iSh KyuTe when, really, it's quite the opposite. and those people need to be lined up and shot.
    - also, that I'm easily irritated.
    - how to download music, video, and other types of files when no "download" button is available
    - how to blog
    - that the Cakalusa is uber cool

  • I was probably one of the earliest young purveyors of the internet. *Cough*1993*Cough* One of my earliest rememberances was before the Sex Ed unit in 5th Grade I wanted to know what it was. So I went to askjeeves.com and typed in "What is Sex?" Of course, being in times before internet censorship, I saw a lot more than my 5th grade mind wanted to see.

But hey, nowadays, it's pretty damn useful =)

  • Hmm, the internet taught me quite a bit. It has helped me learn and do my homework, it opened the doors to the entire world (places are just a click away!), keeps me educated and informed about what's going on in the world and other positives. But the negatives... haha, procrastination would be the biggest on the list. It basically owns the list.

  • the internet has taught me that sometimes it really is ok to get some help for video games. and yeah, a lot of skank bots in my area, no matter where I am want to have sex with me.
    Michael

  • taught me how to google my dates

  • lol i almost never use the internet for the naughty pron
i mostly use it for looking up recipies for food, directions, shopping, access to scientific & medical journals, and harassing my friends

  • 1. porn.

    2. porn.

    3. illegal downloads of music & movies.

    4. news.

    5. various sources to copy stuff from for my term papers.

    6. porn.

    7. keeping connected with people.

    8. porn.

    9. making money & selling stuff.

    10. porn.

  • []

    What does that mean?

  • Free music, movies, and TV shows.

  • " that I despise people who consciously choose 2 tYpE LyKe DiSsh jUss bEcUzZ tHey tInk iSh KyuTe when, really, it's quite the opposite. and those people need to be lined up and shot. "

    I agree with Jx2_66

  • The internet has taught me that Photoshop isn't has difficult as one might suspect.

  • that some people are just plain eeediots!

  • the internet is very helpful and convenient in a bunch of ways for any and everyone. i just don't like the amount of dating sites there are, most that i think are unnecessary. and a bunch of other sites to beat myspace or friendster...i.e. bebo, live digital, etc. also unnecessary!

  • The internet hasn't taught me too much.  Just that it's the perfect place to waste time if you like to watch stupid videos of people getting hurt and poorly drawn cartoons.  I on the other hand use it for researching art, sharing ideas, venting on xanga, looking for work, and keeping in touch with friends that have moved out of state for college.

  • It's complicated and it's addicting. But not for me, I am immune. I only get pulled to it if I am in a 10 mile radius of a computer. And I have only been on it now for the last 4 and half hours..

And stalking? Oh my goodness! Had plenty of expierence with that! (as in being stalked, not stalking back.....)

  • 1. Steal music without getting off the chair
    2. Stalk people without getting out of the house, or room
    3. Do homework/assignments the easIER WAY

"To be honest, I think the internet turns us all into perverted, exhibitionist attention whores with a total lack of self-regard and need for constant stimulation."

I agree with this too. I think the internet has somewhat lowered some people's self esteem about their image.

  • I got to meet you!

  • internet has taught me how to use search.. how to type eloquently and like an aZn.. what to do and wear at the gym.. directions to get from point A to point B.. online conveniences like booking tickets, flights, hotels, appointments, purchasing large orders or things you wouldn't find in a regular store.. purchasing/ordering porn.. naughty kinky wear.. lol. it's taught me how to manage my time and money better.. and manage my life overall. it has also taught me how to stalk/track down people that claim to be something that are really not.. just by the magic of Google.

and it has also taught me how many stupid people there are on this earth, let alone, in this country.. and how many stupid people are allowed to live/breed and go on the internet to spread their stupidity to other naive people and brainwash them.

  • Ordering clothes, making pretty websites, emailing to keep in touch, and definitely stalking.

  • porn soundtracks rock

  • On the other hand, talking about disingenuous fakers on the internet, there is motormouthmili who didn't think anyone would recognize her BS for there was no AskJeeves in 1993.

  • The internet has taught me that anyone can be insanely cruel to their fellow man, simply because the lack of face to face contact gives people the annonymity to do so without feeling that their words are actually affecting others.  I've been on the net since i was in my teens, and the message board flame fights I (and everyone else) had were insane. Looking back i can only say "WTF?".

Ryc:  you can grab your friend's boobies!  I've seen their pics, they're hot!!!

  • ryc: yeh, yeh, well, apparently we have something in common, then, don't we? ;) only, mine's bigger.

  • lol @ kevin72 - i caught that, too.
i was also on the internet in 1993.

  • the n degrees of separation.... that we're all connected somehow... the world seems smaller cos of the internet...

it's also perfect for stalking. hahaha

  • for me the internet is for education, entertainment, commerce, and communication

  • That it in itself is a system of TOTAL control.

  • ::nervous laughter.::
ahaha. the internet has taught me that things ::coughporncough.:: don't have to be quality to get people to pay good money for them.
    XD

  • internet has taught me.
    how to become a stalker.

  • muahah >;]

  • that one's soul can indeed, be condensed into a profile.

  • The #1 main thing the Internet has taught me, is the original Mr. Clean jingle

Dude, I've asked this before, and it never ceases to amaze me.  How in the world do you get so many comments!  You're like a Xanga gigolo!!

  • the internet.
i'd have to say i learned just about everything. from anything school related there's sites like dictionary.com or wikipedia (which i've learned is NOT too dependable, but i digress). and then there's the option to remain in contact with people, or even "meet" others via myspace, aim, xanga, etc. but i consider the internet the main source of my procrastination and it's the main cause for the intangible time that is lost forever.

    yay internet!

  • Oh, and how to buy Britney Spears' hair for 1,000,000 minimum bid. http://www.buybritneyshair.com

  • i learned to prioritize.

    1. xanga

    2. hollywood gossips

    3. friendster

    4. radio

    5. schoolwork

    God bless you!;p

  • Taught ME that the CIA can fuck with your computer when you go into government places you don't belong

  • I'm sorry if someone has already said this, but I'm not reading through 73 comments to find out. "The Internet is for Porn" is actually a song in the musical Avenue Q. You can download it from whatever you use, the musical is relatively popular. I don't know how much it will help you with your research, but the song is really funny

  • (free) INFORMATION super warehouse. i've learned so much from wikipedia, dictionary.com, and google alone. Also, it's the seven seas for piracy. (which i am against)

  • i have become less social in physical presence. who needs friends when you have youtube, xanga, and facebook? ultimate database of friends right there, lol.. actually, this is all pretty sad now that i think about it =

  • that kids nowadays have way too much free time

  • the internet has taught me everything i ever wanted to know.

if im sitting around and curious, i will look it up.

It's a great feeling to have an endless wealth of information at your fingertips.

The greatest asset mankind has ever known.

  • and it taught me about boobies!

  • It's a whirlpool of endlesss information.

  • that time can be mindlessly wasted even if u don't own a tv...

  • haha, the internet has raised me since I was 12.

  • I think the internet is for what ever you need it for. U can find anything u want on here ya know?

    **Lanna

  • Look up avenue Q and u'll see puppets sing, "the internet is for porn". youtube rocks.

  • The internet has taught me baiscally the same thing it has taught u. I get intouch with my friends, cousind, and collegues.

  • w/o internet, i would be teaching french instead of working in my current job :D

  • ...that 11 year olds do not belong in chat rooms.
...that people are awfully crude and opinionated when they can hide behind a screenname.
...that there's no such thing as love on the internet.
...that perversed sex is the best sex of all.
...that if you can't find it on a search engine, it mustn't exist.

  • mhmm! the internet. it has taught me how to explore the world wide web to search for news, school info, colleges. Not only that. the internet helped me keep in touch with my loved ones, class mates, and i get to stalk too ^_^ i also learned about new programs and got to [illegally =X ] download them [ooopsie >_< ] hmm wha else? because of the internet i get to watch my dramas that dont come on TV... like my K/J-dramas ^_^
and of course... the internet has helped me learn about sex. being a daughter of strict parents that want to protect me from the "evil world of sex" i have explored and learned on my own, of course with the help of the internet, on how to preform sex and other fun stuff [wink wink nudge nudge]
with out the internet, i believe my life would be dull and boring. cause i get every source of entertainment from the internet varying from games to music to education to porn!
    I<3world-wide-web!

  • It has made us into lazier people, because we do everything over the internet.

  • the internet has taught me many things about the world, connecting with others online, and a lot of fun MMO RPG games.

  • um definetly sparknotes, definitions so i dont need a dictionary, its taught me about others on social sites such as Xanga, and brough me vast amounts of music and videos to entertain me

  • haven for the at risk, outlet for the fake

well upside is, don't get me wrong some people actually do sound like they type online, which is especially cool if they're especially funny and especially twitchy white and adhd smartga

anyway but it's degrading to self and community if you can't find the means to connect the written projection with own reality, mostly degrading to self, not to mention it just pisses off

but there are exceptions such as entries like these, or long thorough entries, then they can do whatever they want, cause obviously there is no way socially possible for me to tack this into dialogue at any point at any time

but how people act on mmo and chat can be like shit

  • nope. lol im not really bored. so wats up? tell me about u.

    *Lanna

  • The internet has taught me to think before telling what's on my mind.

  • go google.

cakalusa, i almost got into trouble peeking at your site during my "clinical office time" on the pc typing away some forms. argh. i hope my supervisor didn't see those asian photos you put up. if she did, tsk tsk. how disappointing. she couldn't have caught me at a bad time. i'm all jumpy around her now, explaining myself and distracting her with ques. shame to be me.

w/c goes to prove that internet can be a frustrating, fascinating distraction. it also feeds the overdependent slaves to technology population. hoorah.

  • The internet is a sea of information and you gotta be stupid not to take advantage of it... pr0n included.

I personally love the internet because I can k.i.t. with old friends, pay bills online, take online classes, and read the news because I can't stand watching and listening to newscasters on TV.  The only thing I use the TV for is Family Guy, and Mexican soccer, which enthralls my kitty cat for hours.

  • grumpy = syndrome result of inernet overexposure. now we can blame it on the net instead of sad childhood, drugs, pms, our parents, annoying friends, habits, beer and what have you.

actually i'm extremely grumpy now. so internet can be your friend. hah. that just sounded even worse typed. like a loner or something. but you can search for almost anything on the internet.everything from your grandma's dentures, to a rare edition of crazy sci-fi bullsh with gummy worm aliens. how should i know. the only thing about the net is staring at the glaring pc screen which is giving me a migrain right now. yet i keep typing. what the.

just no plagerism. & limit that porn. great. now everyone's going to do just that. who cares. ppl. just put "porn" b/c they think it's "in" or sound "cool".  lonely people. they don't fool me. and b/c of reading all sorts of reactions/comments, internet is fun. and dangerous. beware of online stalkers.

  • What I have learned about the internet, I got from another Xanga  because I agree with it:

    [quote" Kuja 105 Reborn" http://www.xanga.com/Kuja105reborn ]:

    Lesson 13: The Internet

The Internet is one of the greatest tools ever made. It is also one of the biggest piles of crap ever thought up.

Here, you can find information on almost anything, you can use it to enrich your life, or just sit around and rot your brain on pr0n.

You can meet  a lot of people that you would never meet in life by any other means, and that's a good thing. You also can flame people you don't even know from the comfort of your own home, and know they can't find you.

One of the best things about it(the Internet) is you can be someone you aren't, and do things you can't do in rl...

You can  go into Chat rooms(We will probly have a lesson on these one day, when I can find the time) and claim that you are a beautiful 18 year old girl, living in a condo in Fla. when in reality, you are a 40 year old man, living in your parents basement...yeah!

    [quote]

this makes alot of sense to me

  • the internet has taught me shit.

    it hasnt taught me anyhting.

i mean i realize that there are alot of fags out tehre who think tis funny to make fun of poeple who are so called "emo" and cut tehmselves.

    FUCK ALL THE HOMOPHOBS!!

    yea...

  • hmm. had to sit on this a little, but here we go. The internet to me is little obsessions, passing time, exploring intrigues, connecting with others both formally and informally and of course an amazing source of pr0n.. ok i kid on the last one as far as personal internet experience goes, but I do talk about masturbation sometimes on the internet...no not cybersex.. i mean it just comes up more frequently than in real live conversation, which brings me to the last and very real benefit I find in the use of the internet: preservation. This preservation comes in the form of having something to hide behind and being able to exist to others mentally and not physically so much. People must learn about you through the subtleties you choose to or subconsciously expose.. All the while if something goes sour, you can just leave, you can cancel your site, you can move on, find something, someone new. For myself, the internet is both a buffer and a catalyst and I guess has taught me in some ways to be the same.

  • hmm.. internet is for porn.

basically, its the abuse of the technology that we have.
its becomes a "porn" in a way that it exposes anything and evrything under the sun. from the complicated issues politically, socially, sexually and other area. and of course, the literal --pornography.

internet is a bargain of information whether its a fact or a fallacy. its for us to believe and decide.

its just being responsible on our own actions is what it takes.

  • haha~ unexpected to found a funni guy like u in xanga through this random subscription..... but wtever.

interent is great to me, msn messenger, mapquest.com, email, books price, ebay, etc etc. too many to say, but, of course, porn :p

thatz man's nature, nothing wrong wif it. as soon as that guy dont spend too much time on it......

  • When I'm with you, I am calm
    A pearl in your oyster
Head on my chest, a silent smile
    A private kind of happiness
    You see, giant proclamations
    Are all very well
But our love is louder than words

  • The interent has taught me, or challenged me rather, how much can I get for free without lifting a finger. In most cases that pertains to pr0n. Spoofing, what?

  • that even i can still be disgusted/eww'd out.

  • i learned that people can be quite deceiving sometimes.
love over the 'net doesn't exist.
    people are pervs.
    no one is good.
    of course wikipedia!

  • The internet is for learning stuff that no one will teach you in the classes you're taking.

  • haha...avenue Q.
