  • 10 Movie Scenes that Can Make Guys Cry.

    lion-king-sad.jpg
    Original here.

It doesn’t happen very often, but there are a surprising number of scenes in movies that can actually make guys cry. This is opposed to most females, who I’ve found start bawling every time anyone kisses in the rain during a movie. What do you mean I’m generalizing?

In any case, these ten scenes will at least bring a hint of a tear to even the manliest of men, and ladies, if your man doesn’t look mildly affected by any of these, you’re either dating a robot or a serial killer. At times I was even choking up watching the scenes to put this thing together as they’re that good, even out of context. Check them out below, and keep in mind that this is clearly going to be SPOILER HEAVY for the movies mentioned.

    1. Up – The First Ten Minutes

    cry-up-scene.jpg

I think one of the reasons the beginning of Up is so touching is that it comes out of completely nowhere, seeing as most guys think they’re about to see a movie about some old dude who sails around the world in a balloon house. But we should have known that Pixar is more than just a bunch of flashy colors, and without a doubt, the death of Carl’s wife is the saddest moment found in any of their films.

    2. Forrest Gump – “Is he smart, or is he dumb?”

    forrest-gump-child.jpg

Many people would point to Jenny’s death as the tear-jerking moment in Forrest Gump, but while yes, that was emotional, I think it’s when Forrest first meets his son that really hits home. It also helps that it’s the insanely adorable Haley Joel Osment before he grew up to be an awkward teenager.

    3. Gladiator – “Go to them.”

    gladiator-coming-home.jpg

There are a lot of “manly hero death” moments in movies. There’s Bruce Willis in Armageddon, William Wallace in Braveheart, but I think Maximus’ final battle in Gladiatior stands above the rest, thanks in part to the fact that we get to actually see him reunited with his family in the afterlife after they’d been cooked and raped by the Romans earlier. Fun fact: There was actually a Gladiator 2 script where Maximus comes back from the afterlife to kick ass. Seriously.

    4. Return of the King – “My friends, you bow to no one.”

    return-of-the-king-hobbit-kneel.jpg

No one died here, but the moment where everyone, including the new king and queen bow to the lowly band of Hobbits due to their extreme bravery walking across the world to destroy Sauron made many a geek shed a tear at the end of Return to the King. And that’s when the movie should have ended, not half an hour later.

    5. Schindler’s List – The Red Coat

    schindlers-list-girl-in-red-coat.jpg

Most people will want to feel like bawling throughout Schindler’s List, but the most impactful moment of all is when we see the adorable little Jewish girl’s body in a wheelbarrow full of corpses. Even though we only briefly saw her earlier in the film, by giving her a red coat in a world of black and white, it’s clear Spielberg wanted this to hit home with us.

    6. The Iron Giant – “Super-man!”

    the-iron-giant-nuke.jpg

I know not many people have seen The Iron Giant, but those of you who have will have to admit that at the end when he sacrifices himself to save the town, and thinks of himself as Superman moments before detonation, it’s an expectedly incredibly touching sequence. Yeah, alright so the movie cops out and he actually lives, but at the time, crazy sadness.

    7. Rudy – “Who’s the wild man now?”

    rudy-touchdown.jpg

Didn’t think I could make it through this list without mentioning Rudy? Even if you hate most sports like myself, there is no denying just how inspirational Rudy’s sack is at the end of this movie, and it’s even more so because it’s all a very true story. It teaches that through hard work, you can become shittiest player on a shit football team. Sorry, I went to Michigan, I have to hate Notre Dame, but yeah, good moment anyways.

    8. Saving Private Ryan – “Tell me I have led a good life.”

    saving-private-ryan.jpg

This one gets me perhaps more than almost any other on this list. Everything, from Tom Hank’s death, to Damon’s transformation into the old man, to that quote, the scene was designed to produce tears. It’s physically impossible to avoid it.

    9. The Lion King – “Dad? Dad, come on, you gotta get up!”

    lion-king-mufasa-death.jpg

This one had me almost choking up as I watched the two minute clip in order to take that still frame. I’m pretty sure I cried for a week when I was eight and saw this originally, but it doesn’t really get any less tragic as you get older.

    10. Life is Beautiful – “I’ll be back soon Joshua, very soon.”

    life-is-beautiful-death.jpg

For those of you not sure what you’re seeing here, it’s Guido’s son watching him through a box he’s hiding in as the Nazi’s are about to execute his captured father. But keeping up the charade he had going for his son’s benefit, Guido goosesteps past the boy, making him chuckle one last time before he rounds the corner and is shot in the head. And that my friends, is what you call heartbreaking.

Now as always, feel free to add your own.

  • I completely agree with Saving Private Ryan.

  • icried like a baby when carl's wife died in the theater. and my boyfriend teared up.

i still cant watch that part of lion king without getting sad

  • @CaKaLusa -

now now, Chris. it's only a movie. hit me up if you want to watch chick flicks. hehe.

  • lion king always makes me cry. ):

    xo

  • Damn you.. I'm crying now and I didn't even WATCH any of the clips... that last one with Guido has to be about the saddest scene ever... right before they were liberated too... TTT.TTT

  • It's kinda interesting that the two scenes that touched me the most of the ones you listed were Up and The Lion King. I think it's because it catches you off guard. If I have to add one, I would say the final death scene of all the samurais in The Last Samurai. Hate to see all those guys get massacred.

  • Awww I cried watching some parts of Up.. especially the first ten minutes and in Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, The Lion King, and Forrest Gump. Oddly, I usually don't cry during chick flicks.. hardly watch them. lol

  • This one is full of Win. Agreed on all counts.

  • The Lion King gets me heaving every time.

  • The Iron Giant is one of my favorites. I choke back a tear every time.

  • Just thinking about that scene from The Lion King is making me sad now.

  • @Roadlesstaken -

yes!!! or the end of House of Flying Daggers.

  • wow. you have a heart.

    amazing.

  • i bawled when i first saw the end to the iron giant. i thought it was a girl thing. it probably still is - the bawling my eyes out thing.

  • I will admit that #9 made me tear.

Marley and Me could have been on this list...

  • Ive always liked the part in Armageddon when Bruce Willis switches places with Ben Affleck and rips off his NASA patch to give to Billy Bob Thornton.

  • I have yet to meet a boy who hasn't cried while seeing Up.

  • The first 10 minutes of Up def made me cry.  :*(

  • @AibellFaeire -

All I'm gonna say is thank goodness when I saw it in theaters it was dark and everyone was wearing 3D glasses haha.

  • I admit to #4 doing it to me.

  • @Roadlesstaken -

That's exactly what my boyfriend and my best friend said, hahaha!

  • Ugh. Up was wonderful. Pixar is the best. One of their animators is my neighbor!

  • Gladiator and Lion King. Gets to me every single time.

  • I was glad Life is Beautiful was up there. Yes, I'm a girl, but I'd never teared up during any movies, and that one made me sob. First when he talks to his wife over the radio and, of course, at the end.

Though my friend attributes the tears to those darn tiny subtitles. =P

That is probably the only movie that could combine comedy and tragedy and still be taken seriously.

  • Life is Beautiful totally did it for me.  Who wouldn't react to a father that does everything he could to shelter is son from the horrors of the Holocaust?

  • good list. i almost cried remembering some of these... lion king <3

  • Even Chuck Norris cried.

  • I won't tell you which ones my guy cried at; we'll just leave it at, "You're right about this list." ;)

I was really taken by surprise at the beginning of Up. Everybody was expecting some happy-go-lucky adventure with an old man, dorky boy, and gigantic balloon. But geez those first 10 minutes were a real downer.

  • My husband is the manliest guy I know and he cries at nearly every Pixar film.... and most of the ones you listed. But then that scene from Forrest Gump is awesome and would make Attila The Hun cry.

    Fantastic movies, btw!

  • omg the Lion King. I definately cried in that scene for the first 10 times I saw it :(

  • Now, I'm never going to finish watching my copy of "Life is Beautiful". It's just too sad.

  • @flashbulb100w -

You should... it's beautiful... and I agree w/ someone above... it's the only movie that could combine comedy and tragedy soooo well. It's prob one of the best movies I've seen.... and I hate emotional/sad movies. Ha.

  • the first 12 minutes of star trek, i teared up.

  • 40 year old virgin- when his virginity is lost!

    such a touching moment.

  • the lord of the rings one just sends chills all the way up my body. its a very touching, tearful moment. and forrest gump is the only movie that has made my husband cry.

  • number one is ridiculously true. all my guy friends tell me that they teared up with that.

  • How did Old Yeller not make the list? It's a classic tear jerker.

  • Great list. I hope this gets featured. =)

  • makes girls cry too

  • I haven't seen all of these but I agree with several of them.

    Armegeddon gets me every time.

  • Lion King tops it all for me only to know I somewhat relate to Simba. I havent seen some of the movies you have listed but seeing Forest Gump now actually got me on that part, I mean as a kid I couldnt possibly understand but seeing it now is like "holy shit".

  • @CaKaLusa -

The other one I was thinking of (because I watched it the other day) Is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire "My son!" For sure my boyfriend at the time was bawling.

  • I think it was about four to six times throughout Return of The King that I thought it was going to end.

  • Great list.  I can think of lots more but I am a girl, and sometimes cry at commercials lol.

  • That scene in Life is Beautiful had streams coming down my face. That's the #1 of all time for me.

  • @wired_cynic -

    hahah..darn those slow black fades!

  • Awww,I cried at Rudy and Saving Private Ryan too. The red coat was a brilliant scene in the black and white movie.

  • The film that does it for me every time is "Michael Collins". It's about the man who helped liberate two thirds of Ireland.

The way his assassination was filmed, combined with his finacee putting on her wedding dress...just thinking about it makes me want to tear up.

  • At the end of Wall-E when he doesn`t remember anything... that part totally ripped me to shreds and I bawled.

At the end of shawshank redemption, where andy is reunited with redd, I cried in happiness as well, so did one of my (extremely hot) guy friends at the time.

  • @haloed -

    okay he shed a tear.

  • Good list. Definitely would have to agree with Up and Return of the King. It's probably more of a girly thing, but Pearl Harbor and Armageddon always get me. That and the scene in the Little Mermaid where Ariel leaves her dad at the end.

  • You forgot Independence Day, when Randy Quaid flies his fighter plane into the alien ship to destroy it. "Tell my kids I love them very much."

  • @xlcrmlx -

I did too! I`m one of those people that gets really into the moment and it overwhelms me.

  • i agree with all of these.. especially Up and Lion King.. just seeing the still images were enough!

  • saving private ryan is a damned fine film

  • closing scene of Tae Guk Gi

  • i've cried for 4 of the above 10 films. good list, good list.

  • good list, but Marley and Me was saddddd

  • I've had guys openly admit to me they have cried through Joy Luck Club, and I've seen my bad ass hubby cry during Tarzan...haha.

  • @ChinaPrep -

omg, yes! especially as a past dog owner...

  • You're more sensitive than I am. ^^

  • I didn't know you cried.

  • I want to test this out on my brother..

  • I must confess, #9 and #10 did me in.

  • i might have to agree with some of these

  • I cried heaps when I watched 9 and 10. I cried a lot when I watched called "The Grave of the fireflies". It's a really good anime. :D I cried when I watched episode 5 of Bleach. I cried in Dumbo and this movie called "my sister's keeper". :'(

  • Well... I'm a girl but it takes a lot to make me cry. Actually, out of all of these, the only that actually makes me cry is the scene from Lord of the Rings. I bawl from that point to the end of the movie.
The Lion King never made me cry. Not even when I was eight.
Revenge of the Sith makes me cry. I can't think of any other movies that do.

  • you forgot
    pokemon the first movie

    lol

  • :( :( up made me cry too :( :( :( :(

i still have to watch a few of those movies

    like schindler's list...still missing out :(

  • Great list. Remember the Titans for tears of joy. And I think Passion of the Christ was pretty tearful too.

  • @Argenis_sama -

OMG yes. I wanted to kick myself for that afterwards but it was sooo sad. Pickachu : (

  • And Rugrats the First Movie when Tommy was about to give Dill away to the monkies. Okay maybe I cry at everything.

  • what about them korean movies?

  • awwwwww man. now im crying thinking about these movies! hah..

you know whats sad also. the movie CLICK with adam sandler . the part where adam sandler goes back in time before his dad dies. and it shows how much of an asshole he was. the present adam sees this and feels bad b/c is dad says i love you son and starts to cry, he than replays the moment. yada yada you get the picture, if you havent seen the movie yet GO SEE IT!

  • how about armageddon when bruce willis shoves ben affleck back to the spaceship?

  • I was still thinking "why didnt he include Life is Beautiful"! haha

Yes that last one gets me crying everytime. Roberto benigni is amazing here.

I also teared during Million Dollar Baby, at the scene where clint eastwood helped hilary swank to die in the hospital.

btw this post sounds weird comin from you haha. Happy new year!

  • @youngvan -

omg! rugrats! totally forgot about that

    @BitteR_Sweetz -

    that was sad.

Why did Simba's dad die? Cuz he didn't Mufasa (move fasta). haha sorry i had to...Up and Lion King...wtf Stupid animated movies! No good guys are supposed to die in Disney Movies...

some movies make me shed a tear or two because of situations that are relateable to my life situations...one for example is Walk to Remember. Boo hoo, Mandy Moore dies at the end (OOPS...SPOILER). But when Shane West goes visit his doctor father who hasn't been in his life because he doesn't know what to do when he finds out that Jaime Sullivan is dieing and needs his help...*tug on the heart strings* but we all know guys don't cry

  • I've seen most of these and I definitely agree. AND YOU'RE MAKING ME NOSTALGIC ABOUT THE IRON GIANT, which I only have on VHS, with no video player. ='( Damn you.

  • Wow, I've seen almost none of these movies...
Time to get my ass to extra vision!
    Number 9 always gets me...
I cried during "I am Legend" when his dog died. Had me in tears.

  • @Roadlesstaken -

Haha you are so right! I hate crying in theaters, it's so public. But when I went to see Up with my boyfriend, neither of us were expecting it to be so emotional and we both cried but neither of us would look at each other cause we were both embarrassed and trying to hide it haha

My boyfriend also cried the first time we watched The Lion King together and it really caught me off guard. Interesting movie choices!

  • THEY BOW TO NO ONE!!! *snifff*

  • Harry and the Hendersons?

  • Great list, especially Lion King.

  • Up made me tear up ^^;;.

  • I love Rudy. One of my favorite films.

  • I have no soul.  I didn't cry when I watched Up.

  • Lion King... :[
and the girl with the red coat. ahhhh :[[[[[[

  • All good movies.

  • I haven't watched most of the movies, but I did hear the scene in Gladiator made a lot of men cry. There there, fellas.

  • AHH. I just saw up and I the tears welled up in my eyes through out the whole first ten minutes. And then again when he hit that guy with his cane. I was like, "But he didn't mean to!" I also love the Lion King scene. That was heart-wrenching. Fantastic job, even though I haven't seen over half of these movies (or I just can't remember them). I bet you had fun hunting down the pictures.

  • Well, Benjamin Button is pretty touching. I can't seem to pinpoint a specific scene though.

  • i must be half a serial killer.

  • when i rented the movie Up I warned my dad he was going to cry n he was like nah i never cry in movies
u can see him holding back the tears. You could barely see his eyes lol

  • I haven't seen all of these movies, but of the ones that I have seen, I couldn't blame anyone for crying during them.

  • i've seen all of these except for saving private ryan and schindler's list, both of which are still on my wish list to watch.

i have to admit the last one i watched in a history class and we watched it in italian and i absolutely loved it, it truly was one of the saddest things i've seen.

  • can't think of any but the ones i saw from the set are definitely sad. good post!

  • You bawled bigtime for all 10, didn't you? No shame!

~Males crying is instant cry for me...within moderation for good reason, that is.

P.S. I could tell you didn't really write this yourself, and confirmation from Mr. "Original here"! :P

  • The only movie that really got me crying was The Green Mile. And the Lion King made me sad too

  • i think, for once, i totally agree with you. wow

  • life is beautiful is my favorite movie!! :[

  • awww i hate the lion king scene

  • The Lion King gets me everytime.

  • Gosh I'm such a sucker... I teared up just thinking about some of those scenes...

  • Oh Guido guy is so good! I saw his Pinnochio movie and just loved it. Haven't seen many of these. My man is most definitely a serial killer or robot! I have only seen him tear up twice in 9 yrs. And he laughed at me for crying over "Up"

  • Up totally made my BF cry...and I didn't even find it that sad. I'm void of emotion though, so I don't count.

  • oh man. im with ya. bawled.... well, i havent seen all of them, but yeah...

  • I bawled like a baby when I saw Rudy, the Iron Giant, and the Lion King.

Oddly, the scene where Dill and Tommy are alone in the forest during the storm in the first Rugrats movie made me cry, too. But haters gon' hate~

  • what about when mel gibson yells "freedom" before dying in the end of .....dang i am at a loss now.....umm....shoot...help me out here. :P

  • btw....i have only seen my husband cry when the mother turns away the robot son haley joel osmond in AI...that i can remember.

  • the boy in the striped pyjamas.

  • Steel Magnolias.
Right after she dies and then when Sally fields is freaking out at the funeral.

I cried when Optimus died in Transformers, and I cried during Avatar.

  • this is spot on, I totally teared up in all the 8/10 movies I've seen on this list... T.T

  • you forgot to mention Terminator 2 when Arnold dies...teared like a little girl first time i saw it...i happen to think William Wallace death in Braveheart was hardcore sad...

  • OMGGGGGGG LIFE IS BEAUTIFULLLLLL

  • I haven't seen most of these. Probably because I don't want to be manipulated into crying.

  • Iron Giant is one of the best animated movies ever. It's completely underrated. I still have a copy on VHS.

  • Life is Beautiful is a very sad movie. I cried half way through it and we watched it in my world civilization class.

  • guilty on Lion King

  • my father totally did the geek cry during lord of the rings. my mother rolled her eyes and said 'cliche' i admit i've never cried at a movie...not once. well, once, but i was pms-ing and i would have cried at anything.

  • i've never watched Life is Beautiful before... just saw it on youtube after seeing this post, thanks for sharing... beautiful movie...

  • That ending of Life is Beautiful gets me so bad its not even funny.  I can just think about that scene and tear up.

There is a scene in Gandhi where they raid the salt factory and despite being beaten never once raise a hand in defense.  That one makes me cry for the sheer bravery alone and knowing it actually happened.

As for sports movies, Field of Dreams when the dad comes back to have a catch with Kevin Costner.

  • Omg... i cry every time I watch Gladiator. :(

  • Why did you do this? *SNIIIFFF*

  • Another one is when the Terminator died at the end of T2. That shit was a tear jerker

  • This post bummed me out.

But I have caught my older brother crying while watching the Lion King with my younger siblings. And yes, many a nerd has indeed wept during LoTR (both books and movies).

  • Lord of the rings had me crying like a baby.

  • I'm 9 for 10.  I've never seen The Iron Giant, so I can't speak to that one.   But I could not stop the tears at exactly the moments you list in each of the movies.   Seriously, where did you get this list?   When I saw this on the front page I thought you were full of crap.

  • I've shed a tear or two at many of the films on your list. Some just made my tremble in sadness, which usually precipitates the tear, but didn't get to the actual tears.

  • I've only seen half of these movies, and I don't know if any guys I know cried during them, except my boyfriend didn't tear up at all during Up. I, of course, cried during all of them, lol.

Now, Click, with Adam Sandler? That is a tear-jerker. The scene near the end where Sandler's character is running across the parking lot in the rain and in his hospital gown, all old and dying and he collapses and his kids are all worried he's going to die... Even my brother's face was leaking.

  • My dad cried when we watched Saving Private Ryan in that part too and I think I have only seen my dad cry two other times. It really reminded him of my Grandpa and I think it probably did for a lot of other men too.

I just saw Rudy for the first time a few weeks ago! I will ignore your comment about Notre Dame.

  • There's a Korean war movie called Tae Guk Ki (The Brotherhood of War) and I guarantee you that any man who watches it will have at least a tear jerked. It's a really a powerful war movie.

  • So true about the Return of the King scene: the line "My friend, you bow to no one" was delivered impeccably. And yes, as much as a LotR fan like myself would love the story to go on forever, this scene would've been a perfect ending to the film.

  • all of these haave made me cry

and I just shed a tear over the Lion King one >.<

  • I definitely agree with The Lion King! Just thinking about it makes me want to cry again.

  • Up was so sad....:( I cried so hard during the first 10 minutes.

  • Good list! But I've never cried when watching a movie, it's just not me. I do get sad in them, though.

  • CINEMA PARADISO - the one movie that gets anyone emotional. u have to be like.. insane not to be moved by it.. I've seen three men cry to this.. each time they watched it. eand then listen to the music later on on their own and get emotional. It's an amazing movie and it's not even out of sadness, just how beautiful it is.

  • Lion King makes me cry every time.
There's not one time I haven't shed tear for that scene.

  • I'd call that a perfect list. Especially #1. Every single person who watched Up cried during that montage.

  • Up and LOTR...yeah, I'm with you on these, bro...

  • Just reading this list is making me tear up! Sigh, such a sap. I thought I was crazy for crying in the beginning of "Up," but I guess others share the same sentiment. & "Life is Beautiful" !!! Why did he have to die right before the Americans come? ):

  • God, UP gets me every time. And my boyfriend at the time teared up too, haha. It was a hella depressing but happy movie. And Lion King always gets me :(

  • The Iron Giant gets me every time. I love that movie.

  • I'm so glad the iron giant is on this list.

  • saving private ryan, forrest gump, lion king, up -- agreed

  • Lion King.. I always tear up when Simba's dad dies.

Saving Private Ryan was a good movie too =]

  • The Lion King wins by default, if you didn't cry, you have a big black spacious hole in your upper left hand chest.

  • man oh man oh mannnnnnnnnnnnnn,
    life is beautiful.
it was even more sad because it was right before they were freed.
tried to hide those tears while watching it in class.
    dayum.

    oh & lion king too.

  • I cried in Schindler's list. almost did in Up!!

  • You are awesome for posting this.  I think another touching/sad movie scene that probably affects men was from I Am Legend when Will Smith's character is forced to kill his dog.  I know it upset my boyfriend a lot..but he's a dog person lol

  • where the heck is The Land Before Time??

  • Oh moses. I'm a guy. First time I saw Up was with my most critical (and male) film buddy, and I absolutely, unashamedly bawled for Elle's death. Then I took my mom to see it, and forgot to warn her. She cried for Elle's death and didn't stop until about two hours after the film was over. I felt like such a horrible son. Pixar is made of genius. Props for the Forrest Gump and Iron Giant scenes. Frankly, each Lord Of The Rings movie has several moments that challenge even the most chauvinistic of tear ducts.

  • oh my god, iron giant is one of if not my favorite movie, and every time he says superman right before he explodes i get teary eyed. (as silly as it sounds) its a beautiful moment.

  • No Field of Dreams? Fail.

  • this is possibly one of the cutest posts I've seen! I really like the last one :)

  • I cry every time I see the parachutes deploy from the capsule in Apollo 13 and Tom Hanks says "Hello, Houston. This is Odyssey. It's good to see ya again"

  • my boyfriend cried his eyes out at the beginning of up. i mean yeah, i cried too, but he cried me out! he cries easily with movies though. he's sensitive. so i guess i shouldn't be surprised.

  • Lion King is pretty tough... but you forgot the end of Gran Torino and Transformers 2, the part when Optimus Prime gets killed.

  • in movies it depends when i even start to feel like shedding a tear. in war movies its when the soldier gets told a disaster happened at home, or when he wants to tell his best friends mother that his friend isnt coming home. or like in #10 when that kind of stuff happens while a young child is around.

  • that scene from lion king ALWAYS gets me! and i couldn't agree anymore with you about the movie UP.

  • these are SO sad.

thank you for putting that lion king picture at the beginning, I've had that incredibly sad song from that scene playing in my head the whole time I read this list!! :(

    @AibellFaeire -

my boyfriend didn't. but I so did. in theaters, too!

  • oh my goodness='(

  • did u cried?

  • #4...I cried to that last night, lol. I feel no shame.

  • Up is one of the saddest films I have ever seen and it's meant to be so happy!

  • mm, iron giant definitely

  • "Tae Guk Gi" or "The Brotherhood of War" in English. That scene where Jin-seok talks his older brother back from berserker madness makes me totally lose it.

Also, for some reason, "The Incredibles" when the mother desperately orders her daughter to form a force-field around the plane and the daughter can't manage it. For some reason this scene really makes me cry and I don't understand why.

And "Return of the King" ... but only that wonderful shot where Frodo and Sam have finally destroyed the ring. "I'm glad you're here with me Sam, here at the end of all things."

Yup. Not a prayer for me then.

  • haha. This is awesome, because my boyfriend did nearly cry in the first ten minutes of Up! I have yet to question him about the rest of them....hmmm....

  • the most depressing entry ever.

  • Despite being female, most movies just don't make me cry.
    Except;
    Return of the King
    Schindler’s List
and Lion King did inspire a tear.

I am Legend when he has to kill his dog, and the end of Lords of Dogtown with the "Wish You Were Here" montage of photos and credits with Sid's death.

  • Now that I remembered those scenes, I feel like crying already. The movies Saving Private Ryan, Lion King, Schindler's list, Up, and Life is Beautiful are movies I will NEVER EVER forget. =(

  • Nice entry. UP #1 for sureee.

  • hmm i think i wasted a lot of tears on that lion king scene when i was a kid too

  • Hey what about The Green Mile huh? My ex teared up on that movie, I do every time as well. Whether it be at the execution of John Coffee or the very end when you find out Tom Hank's character's curse.

Thank you for not listing Titanic or I would have suspected you gay. Just kidding!
    Gotta give props, though.

  • Awwww. You big teddy bear you. ^^

I never wanna see schindlers list. I watched a tv show about Anne Frank and in the last episode, in the last couple of scenes when they were being lead out by the SS, I cried like a baby. :(

  • an ex boyfriend of mine cried during a scene in the notebook once, i forget which scene, but i know it definitely had its moments. I think it was where she finally remembered who he was.

  • fack. Tears have either steamed down my cheaks or I was literally crying in all those scenes! >.>;;

  • I LOVE that part in TLOTR!!!! It's one of my favorites!

  • another one i have seen a lot of my friends cry at is in coach carter when sam jackson enters the gym after quitting as coach and the team has set desks up and are trying to fulfill their contracts and rick gonzallez (timo cruiz) stands up and says him monologue about how we are all ment to shine and its ok to not so others can shine.

  • Aww man i remember that lion king part ... :(

  • Forrest meeting little Forrest would be close to the top of my list....

  • The last one is the saddest scene.

  • Saving Private Ryan made me and my husband cry...

  • Man, Up and The Lion King are horrible. :[ So sad. I've heard from a bunch of guys that they cried during Air Bud, the part where Josh, the little boy, abandons Buddy on that random island because... well honestly I don't remember the reasoning. I just remember crying my eyes out after Buddy stops eating his Snack Pack and looks up to see Josh staring at him, crying, going away on that boat. Oh man... it hurts my heart to think about it. :[ But yes, that part is definitely a tearjerker.

  • I don't really cry during movies-.- but I know these are very touching scenes and see your point.

  • nuh-uh. not me

    *secretly sobs in a corner*

  • I didn't cry during that part of Up. I cried later when Carl found his wife's adventure book and realized that she'd filled in the rest of the pages with pictures of them and told him to go make his own adventures. Omg I am tearing up just saying that.

  • what about when Thomas J dies in, 'My Girl'?

  • Oh my God! Alright, I'm a girl so this might not count, but... I was ready to cry just remembering most of these scenes!!!
    Good work!

    xoxxoo,
    Kashi

  • The scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where Cedric's dad runs down the stadium, screaming out "THAT"S MY BOY!!!  THAT'S MY BOY!!!" always gets to me.

  • I totally agree with all of these!  What about adding "I am Legend" when Will Smith has to strangle his dog...his best friend...the only living creature he has left! I bawled.

  • 8 always. somehow my girl didn't understand.

  • My fave has to be in LOTR when Frodo wants to give up and Same goes "I can't carry it for you Mister Frodo, but I can carry you." and puts him on his back. Omg I wanna cry just thinking about it.

  • I about cried during Click towards the end, I'll admit it.

  • Any person, male or female, that didn't cry when Mufasa died is heartless.

    Just sayin'.

  • The Lord of the Rings moment was the only one on this list that got me. Deaths don't really bother me, but heroic deeds get me every time. One death that did is Bubba's in Forrest Gump. I don't give a damn if his kid is dumb or sees dead people, but Bubba's "I wanna go home" hurts every time.

  • Peter Jackson's King Kong, when the big guy himself dies, and slides off of the empire state building; The look in his eyes is a look of almost human despair, asking the question, "Why? Why is this happening to me?"

    I just about died.

  • life is beautiful was pretty tragic.

  • Wow, I cried just reading the tail end of the last clip. OH MY GOD, how sad! This week I've been in the mood for tear-jerkers, much to my boyfriend's dismay. I think he was a little sorrowful (but never teary) during The Lovely Bones. You need to see it, the part where after his daughter is killed the father destroys all the boats in bottles they made together and is crying. He said "damn chick flicks" and walked out after the scene, I think he went to get a tissue. LOL
    Go to
    watch-movies-online.tv
You can stream it for free, just search up the Lovely Bones, it's still in theaters but there is a fantastic version on this website.

  • i've only seen #1, 2, 5, 9 and 10 ... and they all make me cry. :'[

  • I really love that you posted this!! =D

  • good list. one that got me, that i was looking for, was Pearl Harbor, when the one friend dies for the other.

  • Oooooh i have to see LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL now... thats such a beautiful scene it seems like ..

  • Certain scenes in The Bucket List made several grown men I know cry.

  • there's something about dogs dieing that gets to me, like Marley & Me, and My Dog Skip.

  • I think this is a pretty good list. There are probably a couple others that I can think of.

  • Blackhawk Down. When Smith has his femoral artery cut by a bullet and they can't save him. Then Hoot tells Eversmann that he can't save them all... he's gotta focus and get the rest of them out.
Shughart and Gordon going to the second crash, even though they know they won't make it back....
And at the end when Eversmann is telling Blackburn's body that he's going to talk to his parents... gets me every time.

  • I almost cried a couple times reading this list!

  • it makes girls cry too... :(

especially, that scene in "lion king".
    that one was so heartbreaking...

    Simba was a cutie! <3

  • #3, #9 and #10 are definitely some of the saddest scenes I have ever scene. But I would say that the saddest scene (which makes everybody cry =[ ) is the "choice scene" is "Sophie's Choice". That scene is just shockingly sad. Meryl Streep does a phenomenal job in that Oscar winning performance of her's.
    Such a powerful scene :'(

  • Yeah the more serious and sad parts in Up! came as a complete surprise to me. I just thought it was going to be another colorful, funny kids movie. The whole sequence with Carl and his wife growing older over the years made me choke up so bad. By the time they showed his wife in the hospital bed dying I had tears streaming down my face. Couldn't help it. Definitely a touching film.

Oh, and I just thought of another tear-jerker moment in a film. Remember in Patch Adams when the woman was murdered and Patch was reading that poem next to her coffin that he never got to finish? Ah, I cried hard and even when he's at the cliff's edge fixing to jump and the butterfly comes along and lands on his hand reminding him of her? Wow. Maybe I'm just a sap haha.

  • I cried just reading these no big deal

  • Awww The Lion King! And Life is Beautiful was amazing.

What about the bridge scene in Man on Fire, the next-to-last scene, when Dakota Fanning's character is reunited with Denzel's? I've seen that movie four times and that scene always makes me cry.

  • My brother cried during 'I Am Sam'

  • My friend and I went to go see Up in theaters, we cried three different times each. It is definitely a good movie, but there are parts that are just hard to watch.

And Lion King, that scene gets me EVERY TIME! We recently watched it in Spanish class and I knew the part was coming up so I laid my head on my desk and didn't watch it, and there were still some tears.

  • @InAGlassCaseOfEmotion - OMG I cried so hard when I saw that movie the first time! I was probably 10 years old and just thinking about it makes me sad to this day.

  • Haven't seen a few of the movies on your list, and probably for good reason cause I'm an emotional movie watcher. But I would have to add Seven Pounds, Click and Passengers made me bawl like no other movie.

  • Awww The Lion King! And Life is Beautiful was amazing.

What about the bridge scene in Man on Fire, the next-to-last scene, when Dakota Fanning's character is reunited with Denzel's? I've seen that movie four times and that scene always makes me cry.

  • Pretty good list. I cry easily during movies but I can see why these specific scenes would make even a grown man cry. Life is Beautiful is such a beautiful movie.

  • harry potter, when sirius dies - that broke my heart. i was in the theaters bawling my eyes out and i look over and my mr. macho military man friend is bawling too. then we both laughed.

i cry really easily though... but still that was a REALLY sad moment for me. i haven't seen new moon yet, but when edward leaves bella i know i'm going to bawl like a big baby... that part reminds me of my most recent break up.

lion king is sad too =(.

  • Good List,

E.T. made me cry when I was little.

I ain't going to lie either I watched the Notebook a few months ago and I teared up.

  • I always just wanted to give the Iron Giant a big hug... I'm glad he lived, I would've been too sad otherwise. :/

  • I dont remember most of these movies but Up and the iron giant are definitely touching moments!

  • Simon Birch is an overall tear-jerking movie.

  • I was about to cry in class when we were about to finish Forrest Gump ;~; .

  • guys cry at a lot of things. no big deal.

  • I completely agree with most of these, especially UP. I am a softy when it comes to that kind of stuff though. Also, the Lion King Father/Son scene, sucker for that as well. I'm a man whose not afraid to cry during movies!

  • Only two of these scenes had any effect on me at all. Well, not exactly. The end of "Saving Private Ryan" was moving, but not enough to "bring a tear to my eye". And as for "Schindler's List" - which has to be one of the greatest movies ever made - it was the end of the movie that actually made me cry. The only two other movies I can think of that actually had me crying were "The Passion of the Christ" and "The Nativity Story".

  • what about Old Yeller??????????????? No problem with the list but you missed this one.

  • #6 and #7 are the only ones on this list that do it for me. "Well, I'm home" from LotR is the best.

The home run in The Natural should be up there.

  • That part in Lion King.. is terrible. It makes me bawl like a small child. And I also gotta say, at the end of Schindler's List, when he stands there and takes off his pin saying, "I could have saved more," had me tearing up in the back of class when we watched it in history.

  • aww lion king always gets me.

haha props to you for posting this up and showing your sensitive side =)).

  • I think Schlinder's List has to be the saddest film I have ever watched ... It was the scene were the man with the one arm got shot that got to me. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is up there with the tearjerkers too.

  • this is true, n i'm not acknowledgin' or denyin', but i bet there are also sum better ones...but the one from life is beautiful for sure caused me to move. anyone kno of sum better ones??

  • i havent seen all of the these movies, but the ones i have i have DEFINATELY shed tears over!!!

  • Lion King one and the one from UP really made me cry, all of these are real tear jerkers.

  • Awhhh :( ( my boyfriend cries in the notebook, when the family visits ally and Noah and ally doesn't remember because of her dementia lol :)

  • I remember watching the first ten minutes of Up and being like "DAMN YOU PIXAR!" *blows nose*

  • I agree with Gladiator. I haven't seen any of the other 9 movies you mentioned.

To the list I would add (probably for guys only) the ending of Terminator 2. :)

I also get teary eyed every time I watch Notting Hill.

  • I agree with everyone who said the end of Shindler's List when he's sobbing that he could have saved more.  One of my friends cried in SL too, but it got him at the scene when the women are herded into a big room naked and they're looking up at the vents thinking they're about to be gassed, but it's just a shower after all.

  • I completely agree with The Lion King and LOTR.

Also, the end of the Green Mile when the big guy is about to be executed and the end of the Road when the little boy wakes up to find his father dead ALWAYS make me bawl.

  • Just seeing "dad, dad. you gotta wake up" almost made me start crying. no lie.

  • what about Field of Dreams, "dad, do you want to have a catch?" no man on earth has the stones to withstand that moment of father/son yearning.

  • My boyfriend got all teary eyed when she died in "My Sisters Keeper"

  • urgh the lion king made me bawl :( soo sad

  • I didn't cry at any of these, but I did feel the sadness with Up.

  • The Click with Adam Sandler can def make a boy cry!

  • I cried during the first Pokemon movie when Pikachu cried over Ash after he was turned into stone. I know it's ridiculous, but I couldn't help myself. It was heartbreaking!

  • i've seen every single one of those movies and not gonna lie, the life is beautiful one got me to most. and then saving private ryan.

wow. people need to watch the iron giant. it was definitely one of my favorite movies growing up...

  • My husband is volunteering up the end of American History X, and I completely agree with him and everything else on this list (that I've seen).

  • Nine and ten definitely do it for me :(

  • I cried during most of them. & Bridge to Terabithia. I couldn't stop crying for hours after that.

  • i KNEW up was gonna be on this :)

  • well, now i feel heartless because i only cried during lion king and i was 5

  • What?! No A Knight's Tale when he meets his dad when he's finally a knight?! No Pearl Harbor when his friend dies?! What kind of list IS this

  • Awesome list.
Idk about any other girls, buttt, I was at the theatre the other night and I cried when I saw the previews to... Disney Nature's Oceans.... lol. and I wasnt even having my monthly visitor yet. The dolphins were just so cute :(

  • My brother always cries when watching "A Walk to Remember" and "My Sister's Keeper".

  • My dad cried during Crash with the little girl trying to protect her father from the gunman and Marley and Me.

Also... Grave of the Fireflies... don't let the animation fool you... you're basically heartless if you don't cry.

  • I almost cried during the end of Hero. I was close to it. BUT IMMA MAN SEE?

  • awwwwwwwwwwwww on the Lion kind one!

  • The Sixth Sense made me cry sooo bad, and everyone makes fun of me for it. I don't know why, it was just something about Bruce Willis being dead and that the whole time his wife was alone... I couldn't stop crying, haha. Also Charlotte's Web was really bad for me as a kid. I definitely cried during Up, throughout the whole thing. Also, the Lion King and pretty much any other Disney movie ever. The geek tears were shed during LoTR and also pretty much every Harry Potter movie, especially the Prisoner of Azkaban. The rest of these I haven't seen in so long that I can't remember whether I cried or not. But I probably did. Everything makes me cry. Haha.

    (:

  • life is beautiful.... the love any parent has for his/her kid(s) never ceases to amaze me

  • the end of the movie "click" made me cry, when adam sandler's laying in the rain dying.

  • Ought to watch Forrest Gump and Life Is Beautiful then.

  • I'm not sure what scenes make me cry because I've been on anti-depressants for the past six years. Before I was on the meds, my mom and dad put me in a hospital because I was crying about everything I saw. I once saw a preview for the Toy Story movie, the first one, and I cried a lot. I tried to cry, a few years ago when I watched Transformers and Optimus Prime made his speech near the end when he thought he was going to sacrifice himself, but I couldn't.

My dad says that's normal. But my dad also told me the same thing when I said I wanted to cry after watching a news report where homeless people were freezing to death but that I couldn't no matter how bad I felt inside.

I asked my dad if it was the meds but he told me that they "make him more sane," but, immediately said that he meant "makes me more sane." I asked him if he made a Freudian slip. He laughed and told me that he's more of a behavioralist and likes B.F. Skinner. I asked him if he thinks of me as Schroedinger, you know, B.F.'s cat that B.F. kept in a box for so long to study it under stressful conditions. My parents haven't let me leave the house in several months.

My dad then went to the liquor cabinat and poured himself what he calls "a healthy dose" of whiskey and finished it one gulp. I asked him why he doesn't use any medication but he said that he just did. He always does that before mom comes home.

I'm not sure what movie scenes make me cry. Is UP worth watching? My dad said he didn't want me to see that movie because I might get some ideas.

  • Awh, UP was definitely sad in the beginning; made me cry. ):
I absolutely loooove Forrest Gump. <3
    Great choices!
Who wouldn't cry when Simba's trying to get his Dad to wake up?

  • Ok, I'm not a guy, but i totally agree with all these. haha ;)

  • The final scene of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest".
Both my dad and my boyfriend, macho men, cry at that scene.

  • :( all of those are so sad :( lion king still gets me like every time :(

  • Lion King Still gets me :(

  • I totally forgot about Schindler’s List. So that was Spielberg, eh? Hmm.

I cry a lot when watching movies. I get in this zone, and I become ten times as emotional as I would be otherwise. I can't recall particular movies at the moment, but I definitely can't ever forget the ending of Pay It Forward. The movie as a whole, really. That stuff has some message, yo.

  • i never used to cry during movies when i was little. but now that i'm older, pretty much everything makes me cry. i cried during 'hotel for dogs.' but of the movies listed, i've cried during the lion king, schindler's list, and saving private ryan. and they're all the same scenes mentions (plus a bunch of other ones). i haven't seen those other movies, or they didn't make me cry.

  • The end of Big Fish, when Ed's son carries him to the river, past all the people whose lives he's touched. The Ed Bloom character reminds me so much of my dad.

  • The Lion King scene always makes me cry...

  • I don't see how lord of the rings can make anyone cry, however it has been quite a while since i've seen it. Maybe I'm forgetting. I agree with the Lion King. Although I'm not a guy, that movie has successfully made me cry. And that may actually be the ONLY movie to make me cry!

  • I haven't even seen 3/4 of the films you've mentioned but just glancing at the photos and reading the scene summary, emotions are already bottling up inside of me. Ready to burst.

Now I know what to watch when I need a good cry. Thanks.

  • @Roadlesstaken - Same here; =( or else they'd see me crying..it was sad..all of them are sad.

  • Haha. Very true.

  • ...ah what about the end of Road to Perdition? or maybe the end of the battle at the beginning of Gangs of New York? or when Heroin Bob dies in SLC Punk?

  • .... I feel like crying now... D:
I agree on all of the movies. Especially Lion King and Life is Beautiful.

  • Up...

well.. I must be a robot then.
    A girl robot.

  • just reading #5 gave my heart a li'l pinch..and I agree with Up..but damn Mr. Fredrickson just looks so much like my officemate...hehe...

    great post man! :)

  • I am a girl, and have only cried twice when watching a movie. Romantic movies are boring. War movies choke me up, as does 'up'. Life is beautiful is one of the greatest movies of all time. The Blindside has some chocking parts. I forgot about iron giant. The invisible is sad. And others. But nothing gets me more than seeing troops dying. Heck with romance.

  • eh he's never cried during those. maybe lion king, tho. anything with animals makes him sad cause they always get hurt. :(

  • I'm only familier with two of those movies.  The scene of Simba you are refering to made me cry when I was little and still does today.  Just seeing that picture and reading that line from the movie is having an effect on me.  I keep telling myself not cry.

  • All the Lion King stuff got to me back then. :'c
The Saving Private Ryan one, almost. I didn't get to watch the movie.
The rest, not really or I haven't watched it yet.

  • That part of Life Is Beautiful is one of maybe two times that I've cried during a movie.

  • Fox and the Hound "Goodbye may seem forever" - the scene where the old lady is driving to leave Todd in the forest.

  • I cried watching Up, Lion King and Forrest Gump

  • Only one that made me baww was Mufasa's death. Man, that hits you right where it hurts.

I cried for Simba too many times.

    - Kunoichi

  • The Lion King one...it's like someone just stabbed you in the chest...every single time you hear the pitiful plea in his voice for Mufasa to actually get up. =[

  • Yes. Yes. And yes. The Red Coat actually made me angry past the point of tears....and its been so long since I've seen Lion King that I can hardly remember the scene at all. I'll have to watch it again, it seems.

    @mncjl -

This made me laugh, sorta. If I wasn't still emotionally heaving from seeing all those scenes going through my head as I read reading them.

  • @xlcrmlx -

I thought I was the only one who did that. Oh LAWD...haha....and I'm not even a trekkie

  • @tenshii_rage -

lol it was very heart wrenching!!

  • Damn dude. You got your bases covered. Up made me cry openly. I might have left one of these out for the end sequence of It's a Wonderful Life.

  • I am a guy, and I have cried during none of these scenes.

  • @Roadlesstaken -

hell yea. honorable ass death. one samurai had 15 arrows thru his body and took bullets from a machine gun before falling off his horse. damm.. i dropped a tear when the bald headed guy spoke his last words. scene is fuuucking beautiful..

  • i'm going to watch Up now.

  • Forrest Gump... I cry through most of that movie.

    Great list.

  • Oh my! A guy friend and I watched 'Life is Beautiful' recently. Throughout the film, I was controlling my tears when I heard someone beside me sniff. Imagine my surprise when I saw my friend cried for the first time! T_T

  • I need to see more movies. I only know Lion King and UP :|

  • Up made my cry so much when his wife died! Thank god it was dark with 3D glasses on!

  • I didn't cry at any of those.  Crying at movies you won't catch me doing it.

  • Why did you have to put The Lion King one up? It makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

  • We were going to rent Up at Thanksgiving for the family to watch, but I'm glad we didn't, since the beginning--and actually the ending--made me tear up.  My mom would have been a mess!

  • *SPOILER*

I Am Legend made me shed a few tears when the dog died ='(

  • wow. yeah. definitely. i didn't even watch any of the clips and i still had a few moments. great examples, all of them.

  • Ah. #10. Gets me everytime.

  • Good list!

And I'm sure it's been mentioned in the comments already, but I always, always, ALWAYS cry when Tom Hanks loses Wilson when he floats away in the ocean in Cast Away. So sad! Gets me every time.

  • Life is beautiful made me cry.
The movie is beautiful in general :]

  • i haven't seen a lot of these movies. but i've seen Iron Giant and Lion King & those scenes definitely made me cry; i remember feeling stupid crying after i saw iron giant, but i guess im not the only one ! heeh

  • @qui_nl -

    hell yeah it was!

  • No matter what, I always end up crying at the part where the dad dies in Lion King. I never cared for The Lion King because of having to watch Simba's dad die when I was six. Also the Iron Giant was my favorite and I alwasy cried at  that scene. The first time I ever watched that movie I thought he was going to die and I started bawling. All of these movies are really good choices of tear jerking moments.

  • The scene from Forrest Gump is so sad.

    Good post. :)

  • i haven't seen all of these, but Up made me BAWL! the part where he loses his house is what made me cry. i just burst into tears and started telling my husband "i hate this movie! i don't wanna watch it!!" and he didn't know what to do haha.

the boy in the striped pajamas made my husband tear up. about ten minutes before the end, he looked at me and was like "why would you pick this movie?" in the saddest voice

  • "if your man doesn’t look mildly affected by any of these, you’re either dating a robot or a serial killer"

    LOL.

the first part in up was way to sad. !
actually, now that I think about it I watched it with my dad and he didnt even flinch.

    curious.

  • I almost cried just reading these. :/ Very good list.

  • Life is Beautiful is one of my favorite movies. :'|

  • my friend cried in the princess and the frog when ray died. he started tearing up, and then looked away.  :(

  • i wanted to cry all through the movie Up, it was crazy.

  • LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL -- i watched that movie in highschool, one of my favorites.
    xoxo

  • hm...i was thinking something more along the lines of when ellen page's character castrates that guy in hard candy.

  • Aw, when I see Up, I'll be crying so badly, since that man will remind me of my grandpa. That part in The Lion King should definitely make anyone start bawling.

  • Name of Allah, the Merciful

  • it has to be schindlers list. i saw it for the first time when i was nine, then again in my AP world history class. sad stuff man, especially the little girl :(

  • #4 gets me everytime!!

  • Lion King still gets me.

  • My sister's keeper made my bf cry and my friend's dad.

  • This was a freakin' awesome list. I haven't seen a couple of the more intense ones, but I've definitely cried with all the ones I have seen. Not that it proves your point, considering I'm a girl, but I know my hubby has teared up at several of these as well.

    Props. Good post. ^_^
    ~V

  • I nearly cried just reading this list.

  • My dad was baling during Marley and Me.

  • There are two scenes that hit both me and my boyfriend really hard was during Where the Wild Things Are. It's a really cute movie, but it's really deep and a lot of parts are really sad.
The first scene that made me cry is when Max gets really angry because his sister doesn't defend him after her friends destroyed his igloo. So he goes into her room, and starts ripping things apart, and messing everything up and is screaming and crying the whole time. The reason this made me really upset is because it reminded me of being a little kid and how nobody understood when I got upset over something.
The second scene that makes me cry is after Carol and Max fight. Max decides to leave the island, and Carol is in his cave by himself, and destroys the model of the island that he made. Then he runs to the shore and sees Max off, and neither of them say anything.
Those two scenes made me cry, not just like a little bit of tears, but like actually cry. I heard my boyfriend sniffling during that second scene.

They are both just so sad.

  • I bawl like a small child when Mufasa dies. EVERY TIME.

    I'm getting teary right now.

  • Some wonderful scenes. (:

  • @xlcrmlx - I was going to mention that one, but, being a girl, I wasn't sure it was a guy-cry moment. Definitely worthy of it.

  • Now I feel sad remembering all these sad scenes.

  • You hit the nail on the head. How about in remember the titans when gerry dies?

  • AMEN! i agree with this list except schniderlist! LION KING i cry every time!!!! pretty much Cry at every Disney movie makes me cry (i write articles for them) and yes i ball everytime at the return of the King scene you are awesome! two props for you!

  • Pretty solid list you got there, and lots of good suggestions in the comments.  I'd like to burn some nerd-cred with the opening sequence to the new Star Trek as well as the weapons testing scene in District 9 (hope that's not spoiling too much of either).  And to balance that, I'll toss in some subtitled goodness with Chingu ("Friend") and Jibeuro ("The way home").  Yeah, nerdy Korean guys can cry at movies too, big woop, wannafightaboutit?

  • just going through the list, my stomach dropped... I think the last one was definitely the worst...

  • I cried at the end of Pay It Forward.

  • So true...Although one movie I would add would be Hardball, in the scene where G-Baby gets shot. Both my dad and my one brother are close to crying every time they see that.

  • I saw Rudy, and, when it ended, my response was, "That's it?" No other guy in the room could believe that I wasn't touched by the ending, but I found it very anticlimactic.

"The Last Samurai" had quite a few touching moments for me. Perhaps the scene that choked me up the most was the one where Tom Cruise's love interest's son tells him, the man who killed the boy's father, that he doesn't want him to die. The whole process of him getting accepted into the village as a samurai had me constantly clearing my throat.

And Wall-E most definitely belongs on the list.

  • Haha shit, I thought I was the only one crying over the iron giant. Random, but I'm glad I saw it on this list.

  • The first 10 minutes of Up was so beautifully put together and definitely made me cry. =*(

  • especially "Up!" one
it brings all my tears out and the kicker, the background music... it cause all the scene became perfect!!

  • I still cry (so do my 16 year old brother & cousin) when Mufasa dies in Lion King and then I cry even more when Simba says that. Lion King's my favorite movie, hands down no matter what other awesome movies there are, it always will be.

This is a pretty good list.

  • the end of the dream in CLICK when he runs out of the hospital, dying, chasing his full grown kids, after spending almost no time with them because of the remote control. then he dies in the rain.

  • The Gay guy did not die in the end.

  • My boyfriend cried at the end of Marley and Me when Marley died, aww that movie was so sad. :(

  • I'm going ot have to say Marley and Me.
My boyfriend and I watched this.
I was balling my eyes out and he was actually crying too.
But not has hard as I was.
Also, The Iron Giant and The Lion King always get to me.
I haven't seen UP yet but I hopefully will soon (:

  • Also. I forgot to add one.
    BAMBI.
    haha.

  • My boyfriend and I both teared up during the end of Marley & Me ... so sad.

  • 10,000 views? Srsly? Holy cats Batman! Congrats on being featured!

  • yeah the first ten minutes of up..... that was sooo sad. i usually dont shed tears but i get choked up.

  • I agree with Return of the King. It's my favorite moment in the entire 3 film series.

  • at last  i have found another soul-mate of the calibre that i feel abt whats truly important in life and film  the ability to acknowledge response to true occurances  and NOT BE ashamed to show this to another human   greetings my fellow HUMAN

  • The end of Forrest Gump, when he is at Jenny's grave, brought a tear or two. I haven't seen UP yet. You should add Jet Li's Fearless, the last fight scene when he's fighting the Japanese guy while dying from the poison.

  • I have seen every single on of these movies and agree with every single one. Certainly the last one, "Life is Beautiful". My boyfriend actually teared up, alongside his dad, when we watched it with his family. All are great movies too.

  • Up had me near bloody tears. Made my mum laugh. The crow!

  • You so earned my respect for Life is Beautiful. I bawled like a baby.

  • I liked seeing Life is Beautiful on this list...I can't even look at the cover of that movie without being sad. But that may be because I'm a girl. I thought October Sky would have made the list....it makes my Dad cry everytime.

  • Wow, did you hit the nail on the head. Except for a couple of the movies that I haven't seen, all of 'em did it to me. I felt like a dork crying during "Up" till I saw everyone else, male AND female, were also sniffling. And I almost choked up just looking at the STILL of Simba trying to wake his dad up.

    *sob*

  • Great list.

    Life is Beautiful is amazing.
I refused to watch the dubbed version, though.

  • The Green Mile- Please don't put that over my eyes sir. I'm afraid of the dark

  • up was an insanely good movie. it was simple and yet touching to the heart. it could make anyone who's not absolutely cold-hearted cry :)

  • I was watching titanic with a guy friend of mine and he cried. He tried to hide it but it didn't work.

  • shoot, the iron giant made me bawl like whoa...

  • i saw this on Cracked.com the other day...

but completely agree with all of these

  • Not once scene from the movie Click? Are you serious?? Guys that I never imagined would have cried even if their father died teared up because of that movie.

  • I remember watching Life is Beautiful in my AP Psych class in HS and then in college during my Italian class. It makes me cry every time.

  • Lion King definitelyy.

  • I think kids movies tend to make us cry more often because death/sadness MEANS more in those movies. When I watch a tragic film, I steel myself against it.

First movie I cried at was "Because of Winn-Dixie," when the Dad and girl have a fight. For some reason, that touched me more than death.

    Oh, and I admit I'm a girl.

  • Very true. My step father crys at ever kids movie.

  • I like this list. :) Lion King FTW...

  • @MyHomeIsWriting -

    same!

    i haven't watched UP yet D:

  • Have you made a record for views count?

  • #9 def.  My friends were bawling along with me so I'm the only one =P

  • aww the first 10 minutes of Up were the best... but the most tearjerking. :(

  • Courtesy of seedsower.

Wow, nice to know that men can use their tear ducs. #10, #9, #2 and #1 - I cried, but the rest? Really? Sad yeah, but you cried? But then again I do have a uterus.

    -Vai

  • Great list. UP definitely made me cry. And almost all of Life is Beautiful made me bawl out. And yeah you are generalizing. Not all women are cry babies. :)

  • I would like to suggest 2 more movies ...

    1. Armageddon
    2. The Click

  • excellent EXCELLENT choices!
I was choking up just going through the list.

  • so true..I was a little misty-eyed just reading this list

  • the lion king always get to me!!!!!

  • life is beautiful! so sad :(

  • If you ever say an independent movie from Switzerland called "Dysfunction", you might agree with me that it has the saddest scenes on history, especially for guys. Without generic viagra on 1976, a poor man struggles agains his lack of erection problem.

  • obviously just like your site however you should confirm the punctuation upon a good number of within your posts. A number of possibilities filled together with punctuational troubles so i locating that quite bothersome to tell the facts alternatively I am going to certainly come back once more.
