  • An Easy A.

Most students achieve higher grades by studying longer hours, hiring tutors, sleeping with their teachers, or naturally gifted. Me? I do term papers for teachers.

It was 12th grade, my economics teacher (second straight year teaching me). He's fairly young, clean cut, a great sense of humor, and coach of the football team. In fact, he looks just like The Rock. He walked beside me one day during a lesson taking place in the computer labs for research. While everyone was busy researching or playing games on websites, my teacher offered me something nobody could refuse: a guaranteed A+ for the year.

    It was only November.

The Rock says, "do the damn paper."

He takes a knee beside me. W
hile looking straight at my PC monitor, he whispers into my ear, "I have something to offer you, Mr. Lau. A copious amount of extra credit." It was something straight out of The Godfather. Or at least the PG-Rated version. He hands me a paper, rolled up like a child-like telescope. "Finish this, and you won't have to worry about the rest of this year." He wanted me to complete his graduate paper.

I know, right? 17 year old me, doing 27 year old work. He must've taken hindsight when I was skewing the bell curves with my government tests when he taught me in 11th grade. I leafed through the pages. Simple enough--at least with the help of our fairly unheard of friend at the time, Wikipedia.

I continued to look straight at my monitor, never making eye contact with him. "Five days sound good?" He pats my shoulder and gives my shoulder a few comradely squeezes.

A few years after graduation, I stopped by my high school to visit some old teachers. I walked by his classroom and saw him there, still teaching, secure with his job.

    Easy A.

Do you think it's moral to write other people's papers? Have you done it before or paid others to do it?

  • Personally, I don't think it's moral. To me, papers are a way for a person to become a "mini expert" on a topic. People jokingly asked me to write their papers, but I would never actually consider it.

  • what... he thought you were smarter than him?? LOL

  • They asked me to write an ese. He said "what's up, homes?"

  • I don't think it's moral, but eh, if you are willing to pay someone to do it for you, I guess. I rather not have anything to do with it since I'm not a good writer myself. ;)

  • I did my friend's paper for him and in return, he helped me with my stats test corrections.

  • I had the opposite experience. Your entry reminds me of a time my Honors English teacher pulled me aside and asked me if I plagiarized my newspaper article assignment. My brain: UM, NO, I'm a journalist style writer. Lol.

But cheaters will continue to cheat whether it is moral or not because they practice/mastered of the art of getting away with things.

  • I gave my brother a paper I wrote to help him pass an English class. And since writing papers come fairly easy to me, I'd write one for someone if they paid me.

  • I still have most of my undergrad papers saved to my laptop incase anyone needs them

  • I would say I'm shocked, but being in my mid-twenties, I have learned that many of us in our twenties aren't much different than we are in our late teens. One would say that he should have been more responsible, as the adult in the situation (which he should have), but he was still a dumb college student. He was looking for an easy graduation, as you were looking for an easy A.

I don't cheat, and I believe homework is a necessary tool to test your knowledge.

  • If I learned anything from college at all, it's that the best grades do not come from hard work and perseverance. It comes from the people who know how to manipulate the system the best.

  • I heard rumors of your elusive protected postings. Now I know it exist!

  • My secret to getting through high school was winning the struggle to stay awake in class.

  • Your teacher should have never put you in that position.

  • So... he got an Asian to do an English paper? *cue evil finger tapping and laughter*

  • haha, I think it's awesome and I would've done it without a second thought.

BUT I suppose it's not the most moral thing ever LOL

  • Sounds similar to the plot line out of the original Harold and Kumar movie. Lol.

I don't believe it's moral to completely write someone else's paper, but it's not a huge deal in the larger scheme of things. Cheating happens in society on a regular basis and on many different levels.

  • How sure are you that it wasn't just a ploy to make you study hard and demonstrate your own potential?

  • one of my friends got paid to do another friend's undergrad papers. she got paid $50-100 depending on the paper. she's actually good at it that most papers got a/a-/b+... I never paid for a paper, but i did ask people to proof read it, just in case.

    protected post... OOooOOoOo lalala..

  • school? what's that?

  • Noice... unethical, but nice. Though now we should do an audit of your high school credits.

  • well... you are easy.

  • Done it. Still do it.

  • I've always been good with grammar. In college, I was the only non-English tutor in the writing lab, and I had PLENTY of people who offered me money to do their papers, but I didn't want to take on the extra work...and I didn't want to get caught.

    Haha. I'm such a goody-goody.

  • Guilty...of ghost writing.
I told myself it was fairly innocent. A friend made it through college, but could not write to save his life. His major was math...and only one course stood between him and a degree.

    So...I wrote for him.
    For pay.
I put a stop to it when they offered him a SCHOLARSHIP...based solely on my work.
He didn't think it was a big deal...but I saw it as cheating someone else out of money they deserved...and he did not.

  • Mmm...the Rock!

  • wow, he must be really desperate or that he was really impressed by your APM in Starcraft.

  • Wow, just wow.
I don't think I would ever trust a student to write my paper for me lol.

  • I think its not a bad thing to write other people's paper, I think it terrible that they would ask. I think its a nice favor to do for people, but you shouldn't have to.

I don't like doing other people's work. They need to prove themselves to themselves because they'll be the one living with that thought that they didn't really accomplish it. But then again some people don't have that self-pride and care about reward more than competency, but thats a value thing.

  • Never paid anyone to do it, but was not above bribery of that sort. Back then, anything apart from adultery and murder.

  • no, it's wrong. it's like asking if it's okay to take adderall. THAT's an easy A, but while student A is out partying late at night and getting high off of an addictive drug to ace their college exams, student B missed out on all the fun and stuck to their responsibilities in order to ace a college exam.
your teacher was very wrong in doing that to you. not only did he cheat himself, but it also hurts the morale of the student. i think you should have reported him, or at least given him back his paper and switched to a different economics teacher. let him feel the burn of rejection over an unscrupulous ordeal.
i never let people write my papers, but i've written papers for kids before. i've cheated a lot of times for my classmates and am not proud of it. i drew the line when one of the students i allowed to copy off my exams ended up with a higher grade than me. never again after that. not only was it unfair to me, it was also unfair to the other students. (she is still cheating, even to this day!).

  • Very well made and very good records, very pleasant to go good luck soon.
