  • Restaurant Reviews with Xangans.
    Today, we visit Sofrito.

This past weekend, besides fighting our way through crowds of tourists in NYC, and battling Christmas shoppers, @lovejennyy, @affinityinunderstanding, and I went to Sofrito, which was long overdue (past restauranting here and here). Three weeks to be exact. But it was well worth the wait, just ask our waistlines after this dinner.

The entrance takes notes of an upscale lounge, but walk further toward the back and you're presented with the decor of a bustling restaurant, pumping with Samba and Hispanic music. The friendly wait-staff move around serving dishes and taking orders so quickly, you almost believe they're dancing to the music.

A pitcher of sangria, red. The ladies each had a large glass, leaving the rest up to me. We were adequately liquored up.

Our dinner started off with huge laughs. What you see above is not dipping sauce--as we embarrassingly dipped our garlic bread into--but is actually coquito, a sweet rum shot served around the holidays. Our waiters simply shook their head and deemed us n00bs instantly.

Calamari, and Chicharron (fried chicken). And a spilled shot brought to you by Jenny.

Three classy (until I show up and make it awkward) diners. If you plan to come here, get here early. We arrived at 5:45. By the time we got our food, the tables behind us which were once empty, filled up. Lines were out the door as we paid for the bill.

Ket had a juicy steak with fries. A classic.

Chuletas (pork chops). Large, crispy, and very flavorful. The portions here are huge. Everybody on the table left with a doggie bag. I used my leftovers as a pillow for the ride home.

I had to live my Flintstone fantasy and order the largest piece of meat the had, the pernil (roast pork). This was okay, I guess.

I've seen bigger. THAT'S WHAT SHE MAY HAVE SAID! This was arguably the most popular dish at Sofrito. While seated, I spotted at least seven other tables order this dish. You really can't miss it when it comes out of the kitchen.

We later met up with @chicbanana (you can follower her recap here) and Fred. We discussed politics, the state of Xanga, and Xangans worthy of being deserted on an uninhabitable island.

Red, blonde, brunette. TASTE THE RAINBOW? Valiant effort by Fred to photobomb.

I SWEAR, IT WAS LIKE TALKING TO A WALL! This was also where I was duped by the girls into going with them to shop.

Kylie (talking over crowd noise): Hey, wanna go to Forever 21?
    Me: What?
    Ket: Forever 21!
    Me: Tavern 21?
Ket (holding in laughter): Yes! Tavern 21!

Thoroughly enjoying being their model. Purple brings out my eyes, I hear.

Ending the night with a TV interview in front of MSG.
